Agape - Ministry to Jamiaca

Mission

To serve the poorest of the poor and walk in the footsteps of the Lord; Bring peace, comfort and God's word to a community in dire need of compassion, and to share our experiences with fellow parishioners.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our group travels to Kingston, Jamaica annually for seven days. We serve each day at the different shelters run by the Missionaries of the Poor, founded by Fr. Richard Ho Lung. Ages range in age from mid-teens and up, but those under 18 should be accompanied by an adult guardian. Residents are mentally and physically challenged, abandoned babies/children, older people who have no-one to care for them and people that are just left to die in the gutter. Fr. Ho Lung's Brothers bring these people to the centers, nurse them, feed, clothe and give them a place to stay indefinitely. In general, these are outcasts of society who do not have means to provide for themselves.

Trip Cost: Each missionary provides a portion of the fare and the rest of our money is obtained through fund raising such as sausage biscuit sales, church events and contributions from organizations, businesses and individuals. Out-of-pocket cost for the trip normally ranges from $500-$750 per person.

Time Commitment

Assisting with Biscuit Sales, Fundraisers throughout the year.
