Agape - Ministry to Jamiaca

Mission

To serve the poorest of the poor and walk in the footsteps of the Lord; Bring peace, comfort and God's word to a community in dire need of compassion, and to share our experiences with fellow parishioners.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our group travels to Kingston, Jamaica annually for seven days. We serve at different shelters each day, run by the Missionaries of the Poor, founded by Fr. Richard Ho Lung. Ages range from the mid-teens and up, but those under 18 should be accompanied by an adult guardian. Residents are mentally and physically challenged, abandoned babies/children, older people who have no one to care for them, and people who are just left to die. Fr. Ho Lung's Brothers bring these people to the centers, nurse them, feed them, clothe them, and give them a place to stay indefinitely. In general, these are outcasts of society who do not have the means to provide for themselves.

Trip Cost: Each missionary provides a portion of the fare, and we raise the rest through fundraising. Out-of-pocket cost for the trip normally ranges from $750

+ per person.

Time Commitment

Mission trips to Jamaica takes place in July of each year. People interested in the Jamaica ministry should attend the annual informational meeting held during the winter months. Watch the bulletin for dates. Trips are normally held in mid-July.
