Thomasboro Elementary School

MISSION:
To offer support to the children and staff of Thomasboro Elementary, which is located in the highest crime, highest poverty area of Charlotte.

GOALS:

  • To ease the financial burden on families and staff by providing clothes, shoes, school supplies, food, and other necessities as needed. The goal for the future is to provide the surrounding community with support; and work to empower the local leaders in finding solutions to the community’s existing problems.
  • To network inside and outside the parish to find additional sources of help for the Thomasboro area.
  • Work with PAL (Police Athletic League) to enroll children in athletic programs in their area. The Police Association provides mentors, coaches, equipment and transportation to children living in high risk areas.
  • Work to stop hunger in the children attending Thomasboro. While many children qualify for the free breakfast/lunch program, some children do not eat from lunchtime at school until the following day when they arrive for breakfast. In a city as rich as Charlotte, no child should go hungry each night.

Support for this worthy cause has been overwhelming and, often in conjunction with other St. Luke ministries, the assistance received when requesting help has exceeded expectations every time

OPPORTUNITY TO VOLUNTEER: We need tutors and mentors for Thomasboro Elementary School
Please note: This school is approximately 40 minutes from the Mint Hill/Matthews area in a relatively unsafe neighborhood.
