Room in the Inn

(Winter Homeless ministry)

Regularly, during the months of December through March, Saint Luke provides a “home cooked” meal and a place for area homeless to spend the night in a warm place.  Volunteers are needed to pick up the guest, cook and serve the meal, spend the night and bring the guests back to Urban Ministry uptown the next morning.

The Room In The Inn is held every Friday in the Family Life Center throughout December through March. Twelve homeless guest are picked-up in the city and brought to the parish by fellow parishioners who volunteer their time. The guest are feed a nice hot dinner prepared by other fellow parishioners and donated by local businesses. Dinner is followed by live music and fellowship provided by the parishioners for our guest. The guest stay the night at the parish and awake to a made to order breakfast prepared by yet another group of fellow parishioners. When the guest part they are given a wonderful bagged lunch to take with them that other volunteers have prepared, and then returned back to the city by even more volunteers.

This program could not exist without the great volunteers that put it all together and make it happen.

INNKEEPER:
There are two Innkeepers that stay the night at the parish with our guest. The Innkeepers are allowed to get some sleep throughout the night, but we ask that at least one Innkeeper is awake at all times. The Innkeeper volunteers should arrive to the family Life Center between 9:00pm - 9:30pm, but are welcome to join us earlier for dinner, fellowship and music if the choose to. The Innkeeper may leave in the morning after the bulk of the morning volunteers have arrived, between 6:30am - 7:00am or are welcome to stay and enjoy a nice hot breakfast with our guest if they wish.

There are a number of available dates left for Innkeeper. Please consider volunteering your time by contacting Joe Vredenburg at (704)564-8461 or emailing him at jevnc@yahoo.com.
