HELPING EMPOWER
LOCAL PEOPLE (H.E.L.P.):
Building Power,
Action and Justice
II
Timothy 1:7 – “For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but
rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.”
Nehemiah 2:17 –
“Then I said to them, ‘You see the trouble we are in, how
Jerusalem
lies in ruins with its gates burnt.
Come, let us rebuild the wall of
Jerusalem, so that we may no longer suffer
disgrace.”
H.E.L.P. is a broad-based organization which
works to bring together, train and organize the communities of
Charlotte-Mecklenburg across all religious, racial, ethnic, class
and neighborhood lines for the public good.
Our primary goal is to strengthen congregations,
develop local leadership and organize power to act on
behalf of justice and the common good.
We hold public and private power holders accountable for
their public responsibilities, as well as to initiate actions and
programs of our own to solve community and economic problems.
We are multi-issue.
The issues we work on come from within our institutions, from
the concerns of the people.
We cross neighborhood, city, racial, religious, and class
lines to find common ground and act on our faith and
democratic values.
